Type D visa to Bulgaria: 180 days to obtain a long-term or permanent residence permit

A type D visa is an immigration visa issued for the subsequent arrangement of long-term (long-term residence permit) or permanent (permanent residence permit) residence in Bulgaria. The type D visa is issued by the diplomatic and consular missions of Bulgaria for a period of 180 days with an unlimited number of entries and exits.

What you need to do to obtain a type D visa

You can obtain a type D visa if you have grounds for a long-term residence permit or a permanent residence permit in Bulgaria: a pensioner with sufficient means, a trade representative office of a foreign company, study at a Bulgarian university, family reunification with a foreigner residing in the country, a company in Bulgaria providing jobs for 10 Bulgarian citizens, and others.

List of documents for arranging a type D visa:

• application form and two colour photographs (3.5x4.5);
• a passport valid for at least 18 months (original and a copy of page 1);
• a document confirming accommodation for the period of stay (ownership title or lease + a declaration from the owner of the property, in accordance with § 1, т. 20, подт. 2 of the Additional Provisions of the Law on Foreigners (ЗЧРБ));
• proof of financial means for the period of stay (a certificate from a Bulgarian bank showing an amount in the account equivalent to 1750 euros);
• a medical insurance policy with coverage of no less than 30 000 euros, which can be arranged with us;
• a certificate of criminal record or the absence thereof (translated and legalised, valid for 6 months from the date of issue);
• depending on the grounds for arranging the type D visa, additional documents are required: a document on the registration of a trade representative office of a foreign company in Bulgaria (a БТПП decision and a БУЛСТАТ certificate), a БТПП certificate; a document confirming pension payments for the last three months, issued by the relevant pension authority, and others.

Procedure for arranging residence

To obtain a long-term residence permit or a permanent residence permit in Bulgaria, you need to come to the country on a type D visa and submit the documents to the migration service of the Ministry of the Interior at your place of residence.
