Water parks on the Bulgarian coast

There is not long left to wait for summer, which means favourite summer pastimes will soon be available again. And one of the most important places on that list belongs to a day at a water park.

However wonderful the sea may be, sometimes swimming and diving near the shore does not feel like enough – you want more extreme and interesting entertainment, such as riding down slides. And such entertainment is entirely available along the whole Bulgarian coast on both sides of the Balkan mountains.

In total there are 4 large water parks on the coast – not counting the slides at the big hotels, which let anyone who wishes to enjoy water entertainment in for a small fee.

Aquapolis

The oldest Bulgarian water park – Aquapolis – is located in Golden Sands. It sits very close to the resort and is considered one of the most beautiful water parks in Europe. The water park is not particularly large, and there are not many slides here either:

  • An open winding slide;
  • An open straight slide;
  • Two fully enclosed “Black Holes”;
  • The “Kamikaze” slide, where you can reach speeds of up to sixty km/h;
  • The “Slalom” slide with 4 lanes.

Besides the slides there are various pools intended for children and adults, for example the “Slow River”, a favourite with many.

The water park starts operating on the first day of summer and does not close until 15 September. Admission for adults (over 120 cm) costs 33 leva for the whole day, or 24 leva if you arrive after 15:00. Children’s tickets are half the price, and small children get in free of charge. Parking, a sun lounger, an umbrella and a safe have to be paid for separately.

Aquaparadise

This water park is located in Ravda, right next to Nessebar. A free bus runs there, picking up tourists in Elenite, Sveti Vlas, Sunny Beach and Nessebar. From Pomorie the transport is paid.

Aquaparadise is the largest water park in the country. And in the opinion of many – the best one as well. Visitors have more than 40 water attractions at their disposal, some of which are only available to adults (those taller than 1.3 m). In addition, there are other entertainments on the grounds, and various shows are held here, and a dance school operates too.

Admission for the whole day for those taller than 1.3 m is 40 leva. Pensioners and children from 90 to 130 cm pay half as much. If a child is shorter than 90 cm, entry is free. If you come to the water park for half a day, you will pay 30 and 15 lv. respectively. You only need to pay extra for a safe and lockers; parking, umbrellas and sun loungers are free.

“Action”

The “Action” water park is located within the Sunny Beach resort complex, fairly far from the sea, but getting to the water park is easy thanks to the free, comfortable buses from all the nearby resorts.

Visitors have children’s, family and extreme slides at their disposal, as well as a variety of pools and entertainment “on dry land”, for example a mini zoo. The water park is large, there is plenty of entertainment here, and you will not get bored. It is very popular with guests of the nearest resorts, but thanks to the well-thought-out organisation and the water park’s large size there are rarely any queues here.

Tickets for adults (over 130 cm) cost 38 leva for the whole day and 28 leva for half a day. For children between 0.9 and 1.3 m tall, as well as for people over 60, you need to pay 19 leva for the whole day or 14 leva for half a day. Children under 0.9 m tall get in free (accompanied by adults, of course). Useful information: prices are lower during the water park’s first days of operation. In addition, tickets can be bought at a reduced price on the website.

Aquamania

This water park in Albena opened less than two years ago and has not yet gained great popularity, primarily because it is still being completed. Visitors have some complaints about how the water park organises things, in particular not everyone likes carrying the heavy rings up to the slides themselves. However, in the future the water park may well surpass the neighbouring Aquapolis.

For now the water park has 4 slides for adult visitors and 7 slides for the younger generation, as well as a “Lazy River” and pools. Various cafés and small restaurants are also open, so you can have a bite between water amusements. New slides for adults are planned to open for the 2016 summer season.

Admission costs 35 leva for adults (over 1.2 m) and 15 leva for children (from 0.9 to 1.2 m). The youngest get in free. If you come to the water park at 14:00, admission will cost adults 27 leva and children under 1.2 m – 12 leva. A safe and a towel are paid for separately.

Mini water parks

It is good for those who live next to the water parks. But there is entertainment for those living further away too. These may not be full-scale water parks covering several square kilometres, but you can have a decent time there. For example, in Primorsko there is a small but very interesting water park, “Aqua Planet”. Visitors have slides, tunnels and pools at their disposal. Prices here are lower than at the large and well-known water parks (adults can spend the whole day for 26 lv, children up to 130 cm tall – for 16 lv), and as for the quality, according to reviews it is in no way inferior to the recognised water entertainment centres.

In Elenite, on the grounds of the Royal Castle hotel, there is a small but very beautiful water park, “Atlantida”, with six slides. Entry for everyone taller than 90 cm costs 25 lv for the whole day and 15 lv for half a day. Shorter children get in free. In general, many hotels along the whole coast have at least small water slides in their pools. Of course, this is not an equal substitute for a water park offering a multitude of attractions, but then you do not have to travel anywhere – all the entertainment is close by.
