Burgas is the second largest city on the Bulgarian coast and the country's largest seaport. Its excellent climate, convenient location and well-developed infrastructure make it one of the most popular cities among those who come to Bulgaria for a holiday or for permanent residence.

This colourful, vibrant resort grows more attractive every year, acquiring a European polish and drawing in ever more tourists. Streets are being renovated (Aleko Bogoridi Street, for example, has been put in order), flower beds laid out, new cosy cafés opened. Holidaymakers from the nearby resorts come to the shops and malls of Burgas, and that is no surprise — prices here are low and the choice is wide.
The city beaches are strikingly clean and well kept. Burgas is ideal for those who want to relax by the sea but are not prepared to settle somewhere remote, far from any town. At the same time prices here, as in any city lived in year-round, are noticeably lower than at resorts geared solely towards tourists.
The sights of Burgas
The Burgas Sea Garden is a favourite place of recreation for residents and visitors alike. It is well suited to walks with children. Shady avenues, beautiful flower beds, cosy cafés and small restaurants, interesting exhibitions and attractions await visitors from morning until evening.
The Archaeological Museum on Aleko Bogoridi Street will appeal to anyone interested in the history of Bulgaria. Despite its modest size, the display includes a great many antiquities.
The Historical Museum on Lermontov Street is also worth a visit. It holds many interesting exhibits, as well as old photographs of Burgas that give an idea of how the city looked in times past.
The Cathedral of Saints Cyril and Methodius is an impressive building that attracts tourists. The church was under restoration for a long time, but it is now open to visitors again, and anyone may admire its majestic interiors and ancient icons.
The Church of St. John of Rila stands on Aleksandrovska Street, right in the centre of the city. This beautiful church will be of interest not only to believers, but also to those far removed from religion.
St. Anastasia Island lies 6 km from the city. It has a rich history: a monastery once stood here, and later a prison. You can get there on a boat excursion.
