Invitation to Bulgaria for a foreign national

Grounds are required to obtain a short-term Bulgarian visa. This may be, for example, an invitation from a Bulgarian citizen or from a foreign national residing in Bulgaria long term.

**
A C visa allows you to stay in Bulgaria for up to 90 days within a 6-month period counted from the date of first entry into the country. Such visas may be single-entry, double-entry or multiple-entry. Before the end of the permitted stay, the foreign national must leave Bulgaria.
A C visa can be obtained on various grounds, and one of the most common options is having an invitation.
There are various types of such invitations; let us look at their particulars.

Покана за частно посещение на чужденец в Република България (private invitation)

This is the most common option. An invitation can be issued either by a Bulgarian citizen or by a foreign national lawfully staying in the country with a long-term residence permit, permanent residence permit or EU long-term resident status. In any case, it must be a private individual inviting another private individual as a guest. This must be stated in the invitation without fail.

The invitation must be drawn up in accordance with the requirements of the law and certified by a notary. Together with it, the inviting party must submit the following documents to the Migration Directorate of the Ministry of the Interior at their place of residence:

  • A declaration of ownership (availability of housing);
  • A declaration of available funds.

The state fee for issuing an invitation is 10 leva.

Покана от физическо или юридическо лице, извершващо дейност по Търговския закон, за бизнес пътуване на чужденец в Република България (invitation from a natural or legal person carrying out activity under the Commerce Act, for a business trip)

In this case the inviting party must be registered in the Commercial Register and the Register of Non-Profit Legal Entities at the Registry Agency as an entrepreneur. The invitation is certified by a notary, and a Certificate of Current Status issued no earlier than three months before the documents are submitted should be added to the package of documents provided to the migration service. It is also important to state in the invitation that the purpose of the foreign national’s visit to Bulgaria is business.

The state fee is 20 leva.

Покана от юридическо лице, регистрирано по Закона за юридическите лица с нестопанска цел, за пътуване на чужденец в Република България (invitation from a legal entity registered under the Non-Profit Legal Entities Act)

In this case the invitation is drawn up in almost the same way as in the previous case, but it must come from a non-profit legal entity registered in the relevant register. In this case, in addition to the Certificate of Current Status, a copy of the Certificate of Registration must also be added to the list of documents submitted to the migration service.

The state fee is the same as in the previous case — 20 leva.

Покана от представителство на чужестранно юридическо лице, регистрирано по чл. 24 от Закона за насърчване на инвестициите, за бизнес пътуване на чужденец в Република България (invitation from a representative office of a foreign legal entity registered under Art. 24 of the Investment Promotion Act, for a business trip)

This option is similar to the previous ones, but the inviting party is a branch of a foreign company. In this case it is also mandatory to indicate that the purpose of the visit is business. The invitation must be certified by a notary, and a Certificate of Current Status of the representative office issued by the Commercial Register of the Registry Agency no earlier than three months before the invitation is drawn up must be added to the list of documents submitted to the migration service.

The state fee is 20 lv.
