The geopolitical situation in Russia and Ukraine has led to a decline in the flow of tourists from these countries to Bulgaria. Considering ways to offset such a decline, Bulgaria has decided to ease its visa regime not only for Russia and Ukraine, but also for Belarus, Kazakhstan, Georgia and Armenia.

This was announced by Minister of Tourism Nikolina Angelkova after her meeting on 6 February 2015 with Bulgaria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Daniel Mitov.
Citizens intending to visit Bulgaria for the first time will be able to obtain double-entry or multiple-entry short-stay visas valid for one year for the purpose of a private visit, while those who have already held Bulgarian visas before will receive them for three years. The same option is provided for property owners.
To develop children’s tourism and stays by minors from the above countries at youth camps, multiple-entry visas will be issued for 5 years. Double-entry or multiple-entry short-stay visas valid for one year will also be available to persons with disabilities.
We would remind you that a “short-stay visa” has always meant a maximum of 90 days per six-month period. It in no way grants the right to stay in Bulgaria for an extended period, to work, or to obtain a long-term residence permit or permanent residence permit, which is possible only by obtaining an immigration visa.
This measure extending the period during which tourists may visit Bulgaria is part of a flexible state policy aimed at attracting a flow of citizens from other countries, removing the need to book hotels well in advance, and making it possible to visit the country again without spending effort, money and time on obtaining new visas.
The relevant instructions on simplifying the procedure for issuing tourist visas have already been sent to the diplomatic and consular missions. In parallel, Bulgaria is conducting an active advertising campaign in the countries of the former CIS.
