Business in Bulgaria: is it really that simple? A message to immigrants.
3 min readUpdated
But what will work here?
How and in what direction should you develop? What will you face along the way and how do you overcome difficulties in a country that is still unfamiliar, with its own particularities and a distinctive mentality of its people? Will specific business ideas be accepted here and will they bear any worthwhile fruit?
If more people answered these questions before starting any activity in Bulgaria, more than 50% of immigrants would not be leaving the country broke, throwing up their hands in complete bewilderment. Overconfident immigrants leave, and the great opportunities remain — along with the money invested by failed adventurer-entrepreneurs.
Yes, Bulgaria is a unique country, and there really are great opportunities for development here. But starting something without a “guide”, relying on your experience in another country, your education, your knowledge or a sufficient amount of money, is extremely short-sighted.
So what should you do?
Well, first of all, to begin with, “don’t rush”. The terrain needs to be studied. The biggest mistake a newly arrived foreigner makes is to start something straight away. Spare your money, your energy and your time, …моля ви)))
That will most likely be an act of charity rather than a successful start in business. And there is no need to test the truth of that statement in practice! You may ask: is nothing sold here, do people not use services, does nothing need to be produced…? In fact everything is needed, and of the best quality, but… The approach to ideas and business, the assessment of opportunities and the development strategy in the form customary in other countries — none of this is likely to work, and correct theoretical knowledge of building a business will help only in part. In your first year of life in Bulgaria, like infants, do not rush to take grown-up steps. Spend it not only on gathering information in the business direction that interests you, but also on studying the market as a whole, the mentality of the people, the legislation; try to see the weak and strong areas of existing businesses in Bulgaria and talk more with Bulgarians in particular! And even a knowledge of Bulgarian history will not go amiss. When that 100% clarity and confidence finally comes that “YES”, this is exactly the thing that is “bound to succeed”…go to bed calmly…and the next morning…start studying the subject with specific specialists, and preferably check the information you receive against official sources or with other specialists))
Not changed your mind yet?! Then go ahead!
Sorry, one more small “stop”. Regarding new innovative ideas… If you are not genuinely ready to sacrifice everything for the success of your “know-how”, do not rush to implement it; instead apply 20% of the new against 80% of what is customary for Bulgaria. For the rest, success depends on a sound development strategy, strong desire and persistence. Beautiful land…Huge resources…Great opportunities for investment… But all of this is available if you have come to develop this country, not simply to make quick money. Surprisingly, everything valuable here seems to be under invisible protection from lazy and unskilled hands, from adventurers and passing “businessmen” who just want to grab something.
Do you still like this country?! Do you want to live here, educate your children, work and develop your business here?! Perhaps you are simply in love!? Then… Добре дошли! Bulgaria deserves to prosper! And all of us along with it!
