Annual reporting in Bulgaria from 2027: a single system
NSI, the National Revenue Agency (NAP) and the Registry Agency are introducing the "Single Entry Point" information system From 1 January 2027, a new procedure…
A permanent residence permit in Bulgaria can be obtained after residing legally in Bulgaria for 5 years (holding a long-term residence permit), or by having Bulgarian origin, or by investing significant funds in the Bulgarian economy. The permanent residence permit is granted for an unlimited term (until the expiry of the international passport) and is renewed free of charge.

The list of grounds for obtaining a permanent residence permit is set out in Art. 25 of the “Law on Foreigners in the Republic of Bulgaria (ZChRB)”. The most common ground for obtaining a permanent residence permit is the sufficient period of residence provided for by the Law for foreigners holding a long-term residence permit (continuous stay in Bulgaria). Foreigners holding a long-term residence permit must reside legally and continuously on the territory of the country for 5 years, having been absent for no more than 30 months during this period and having obtained a long-term residence permit each year for 5 years on the grounds available to them (financially secure pensioner, representative of a foreign commercial organisation, carrying out business activity with the creation of the required jobs…)
Upon obtaining a permanent residence permit, an EGN (Unified Civil Number) is assigned and an identity card for permanent residence is issued. Family members (minor children and spouse) are also entitled to obtain a permanent residence permit.
— an application in the standard form;
— a copy of the international passport and of the identity card (if you hold a long-term residence permit);
— a certificate from a Bulgarian bank confirming available funds of not less than 6 lv;
— a notarised lease agreement for housing in Bulgaria;
— provide a document showing on what grounds you are obtaining permanent residence status (Bulgarian origin, 5 years of long-term residence permit, marriage);
— a fee of 10 lv;
— a declaration of accommodation and maintenance (if children are applying as well).
