RESIDENCE PERMIT FOR WELL-OFF
Parents of Bulgarian citizens or citizens of other
states permanently residing in the country can
obtain a residence permit on the basis of Art. 24,
para 1, sub-para 7 of the Bulgarian Law on
Foreigners.
WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO DO?
To do this, you first need to obtain a Visa D at the
Bulgarian consulate in the country of your legal
stay. Documents are considered from 30 working
days. The cost of the Visa is 100 euros, the
validity period is 180 days. During this time, you
must come to Bulgaria and apply to the
Migration Directorate of the police department
at your place of residence (in the regional city)
with an application for a residence permit. This
must be done at least 2 weeks before the
expiration of the visa. For consideration of
documents in the Migration Directorate you
need to pay 10 levs. The fee for the permit is 500
levs. The issue of a personal card is paid
additionally - from 45 levs. In the future, the
residence permit can be extended. To do this,
with the same package of documents, you need
to contact the migration service at least two
weeks before the expiration of the existing
residence permit.
Both for obtaining a Visa and for the initial or
repeated receipt of a residence permit, the same
documents are required. The main list is
standard:
- International passport + copies of the first spread and spread with the stamp of the last entry into the country. The document must be valid for at least another 1.5 years from the date of applying for a visa.
- Completed application form with photo / application to the Migration Directorate.
- Personal card and its copy - upon renewal of the residence permit.
- Document proving the availability of housing. The owners present a notarial deed (copy), tenants, respectively, a notarized copy of the lease agreement with the address declaration.
- Health insurance for foreigners with coverage of 30 thousand euros. It must be valid for the entire period of stay in the country.
- A certificate from any Bulgarian bank where the applicant has an account, about the availability of the required amount on it. In 2020, for a visa it is 3660 levs, for a residence permit - 7320 levs.
- Certificate of no criminal record (not submitted by minors and stateless persons), issued no earlier than 5 months before filing. Translation into Bulgarian and legalization are required!
SPECIAL DOCUMENTS
If it is not possible to open an account in a
Bulgarian bank and take a certificate from it, then
the burden of supporting a parent can be taken
on by his/her adult child. To do this, he/she must
provide his/her bank statement, as well as certify
a declaration with a notary with the obligation to
support the parent and pay all his/her expenses
in Bulgaria.
Additionally, additional confirmation of a specific
ground will be required. The confirmation

OTHER GROUNDS
- Birth certificate of a citizen of Bulgaria / foreigner with Bulgarian permanent residence. A certified copy is required. The document is previously translated into Bulgarian and legalized.
- A copy of the personal card of a person with permanent residence or a document that confirms Bulgarian citizenship (original + copy).
